70What is a Bar Girl?
Bar Girls are not to be confused with a Bar Maid whose job it is is to work behind a bar and serve Beer and Spirits. That said Bar Girls will serve Beer and Spirits too.
Bar Girls are primarily hostesses whose job it is is to entice customers into bars, make them feel comfortable and persuade them to buy drinks. Bar Girls are experts at analysing body language and know when a customer prefers to be alone. It is in their best interests to know this so they don't waste their time on a 'Cheap Charlie'.
Bar Girls are usually, though not always employed by the bar and so, sometimes get a bit of a wage. They are not tied to the bar and resign and move on to another bar anytime they like. Their prime source of income is obtained from 'Ladies Drinks', Tips and Bar Fines.
Bar Girls are often frowned upon by people who know no better who look on them as no more than prostitutes. It is true, many of them are but then prostitution is the worlds oldest profession. Prostitutes were not condemned by Buddha or by Christ and there are no people I know who can match their stature.
Pattaya Bar Girls
Bar Girls are no different to any other girl. They are individuals. They have their own individual senses of humour, their own hang ups, likes and dislikes. They are just people doing a job. As with anyone, some like what they are doing and others hate it. Some Bar Girls are just a little different. They may be Kathoey who work alongside and are treated no differently to the other girls.
Sadly, as an 'unskilled' profession it is often the only opportunity open to many girls from poor backgrounds. Many of them are supporting parents, children, boyfriends or husbands.
A skilled Bar Girl is often fluent in several languages and a good listener. She will know how to relax and how to seduce and how, in the nicest possible way, to milk as much money out of her customers as she can. Her working life will last only as long as her looks. She will have to build a home, educate her children, feed her parents and build up a nest egg for the future in that time.

Peter, my hat's off to you for spending your time in that part of the world. I spent four years traveling in Thailand, Philippines, Korea and the surrounding areas in the 70's.
